Touring to Machu Picchu and climbing the Inca Path was on our “bucket listing” for a very long time. When our daughter advised we should always do it earlier than we couldn’t (!) we booked it after which began engaged on ensuring we have been prepared and in a position.
Valerie designed a coaching programme for us which began 5 months earlier than we departed. A mixture of cardio and leg strengthening workouts with plenty of selection have been put collectively to make sure we had the stamina for lengthy climbing days (6 – 7 hours per day) at excessive altitude (2800 – 4200m) with some lengthy steep climbs, typically up tough steps. Probably the most difficult day of the hike concerned a steep hike from 3100m to 4200m and again right down to 3600m.
The programme was wonderful and with the objective in thoughts was by no means too robust. Valerie made it fascinating and was all the time occupied with how she might tweak it to make it as efficient as attainable. We supplemented her programme with lengthy hikes within the Wicklow Mountains at weekends.
We did the hike with ease in early June 2018, the one problem being some altitude illness for a few days, however our power and stamina have been good. Valerie’s consideration to element and tailor-made programme did the trick.
